Tips for the Best Hair Do

For most ladies, year round, there is always an occasion calling for an up do. Events could include weddings, holiday parties, or any of Austin's endless parade of fashion soirées. Here are a few tips from Keep Austin Gorgeous.

Short hair or shoulder length, We can create magic with any length. Also, the use of temporary clip-in extensions can be a great add on and they are reusable for any night on the town. We carry a wide selection of human hair clip-ins and all types of different colors to mach everyone.`

Prior to the appointment, Shower the night before and add lots of antigravity for hold and dimension. Give yourself a great blow out, this is especially important for curly and frizzy hair. However, DO NOT use a flat iron before getting a up do. That can make it hard to hold curl and stay pinned in place. Please leave the flat ironing to your stylist on the day of the event.

The night before your appointment, make sure not to over condition or apply a mask to your tresses. This can result in hair that is too soft and weighed down. We recommend Antigravity by Kevin.Murphy, everyone loves it and its not greasy. It just adds the right amount of volume and hold.

Another great rule is to arrive to your appointment early and with DRY hair. This allows time to look thru magazines and have a proper consultation.

Last but not least, the weeks prior to your appointment are crucial. Freshly highlighted and colored hair is a must. New growth (dark roots) can show up dramatically in an up do and can sometimes be even more emphasized by certain cameras and show up exaggerated in pictures. Going an extra shade lighter or maybe some soft highlights can help your hair to look perfect and camera ready. Having the ends of your hair trimmed neatly also keeps the finished product smooth and impeccable.

PS. Don’t forget to wear a button down shirt to your appointment on the day of the event so you can change without messing up your masterpiece.

Parabens and Breast Cancer...

Parabens are the most commonly used preservative in personal care products. They are widely used in everything from shampoo to personal lubricants.

But first, let's back up a bit... exactly what is a paraben? The chemical name is Alkyl Hydroxy Benzoate Preservatives.

Should you change your personal care product habits?

Of course, you may want to just eliminate all skin care products that contain parabens and follow...

The "Precautionary Principle"

If you're still concerned about parabens and cancer, it's easy enough to avoid this controversial chemical. Read labels... look for ingredients such as ethylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, isopropyl and isobutylparaben, or parahydroxybenzoate. They all indicate the product contains this preservative.

At Keep Austin Gorgeous we carry a line free from parabens by Kevin.Murphy. The only hair care line that puts a seal on his products. We love Kevin.Murphy! He is a real stylists and not a cosmetics line trying to sell "natural" hair products!
